In this post, I will walk you through the features of the Timbertech Airbrush Kit with a Built-In Compressor. This guide will help you understand the key benefits and usage of this fantastic airbrush kit that is perfect for beginners and experienced artists.

When it came to brush-painting my models, I wanted to create that smooth-painted look to give my models the finish they deserved after all that hard work of putting them together. I have never used any airbrush before and wanted one that gave me good results for a reasonable price.

After doing a lot of research (I always deep-dive when it comes to any new product I am thinking of purchasing), I came across this model that seemed to fit the bill and was considerably cheaper than most airbrushes out there.

I picked one up on Amazon and when it arrived I was pleased with the box, instructions and what the product came with. The kit comes with three nozzle sizes and all the accompanying supplies you need for any application.

Key Features of the Timbertech ABPST05 Airbrush Kit:

Built-In Compressor
The ABPST05 Airbrush Kit comes with a built-in compressor that I have found delivers consistent and reliable air pressure for smooth and even spraying despite the small tank size, which was something people said would be a problem (but isn’t). The compact design of the compressor ensures that it does not take up much space on your workbench and can be easily transported. I put a small piece of hard foam underneath the compressor to prevent it from moving about as it vibrates.

Dual-Action Airbrush
The kit includes a dual-action airbrush that allows users to control the amount of paint and air pressure independently. This feature provides greater control and precision, making it suitable for detailed work and various applications. The airbrush is easy to use, and with a bit of practice, you will become accustomed to spraying your projects too. As a tip, use the little lid that goes onto the paint reservoir that comes with the airbrush to ensure you don’t spill paint on you or the floor!

Adjustable Pressure
The kit has a pressure regulator and built-in moisture trap, allowing users to adjust the air pressure according to their requirements and prevent moisture from entering the airbrush. Just be aware that you need to click the black pressure regulator up before adjusting the pressure, which isn’t mentioned in the user manual. Then when you are happy with the pressure, click the valve down to set pressure.

Benefits of Using the Timbertech ABPST05 Airbrush Kit:

Versatility
The Timbertech ABPST05 Airbrush Kit is suitable for various applications, making it a valuable tool for artists, hobbyists, and professionals alike.

Portability
The compact design of the compressor and the lightweight airbrush make this kit highly portable and perfect for on-the-go use.

Easy to Use
The user-friendly design of the Timbertech ABPST05 Airbrush Kit makes it suitable for beginners, while the advanced features cater to the needs of experienced users. Another tip is that when cleaning the airbrush, be careful when removing the small tip with the small spanner included because it’s easy to over-tighten this – I have been through two tips because I needed to be more careful. You can buy replacement needles, tips etc., from eBay or Amazon for about £8.

Cost-Effective
The all-in-one design of the kit eliminates the need for purchasing separate equipment, making it a cost-effective solution for your airbrushing needs.

Tips for Using the Timbertech ABPST05 Airbrush Kit:

a) Ensure the airbrush is adequately cleaned and maintained for optimal performance. I do this every time I use the airbrush, and all I did was watch a couple of videos on cleaning which helped me a lot.

b) Always use the appropriate paint consistency to avoid clogging and uneven spraying. This will vary from paint to paint but I mix to the consistency of milk. I don’t have a special mix ratio and I have been fine with some practice. Just be aware that different paint manufacturers will require different amounts of thinners and be careful when using varnishes because they tend to require more thinning and cleaning after use.

c) Practice your airbrushing technique on scrap material before working on your actual project. This is important because you might have the pressure up too high or too low and by spraying over a piece of card etc you will see what results you are likely to get on your actual piece, which will save you a lot of headache in the long run because cleaning paint off of your project once sprayed on can be tricky.

d) Experiment with different air pressure settings to achieve the desired results.

e) Use a respirator and work in a well-ventilated area to ensure safety while airbrushing.

Conclusion:

The Timbertech Airbrush Kit with Built-In Compressor ABPST05 is an excellent investment for anyone looking to start out in airbrushing. I would argue with anyone that says you need an expensive airbrush and a big tank with an extra quiet compressor. Yes, you can go down that road, but the results-to-cost ratio is not that large.

The compressor isn’t very loud, even when spraying large surface areas I have not had any problems in overheating. The moisture trap is also a great feature which safeguards your compressor over time.

If you are thinking that you want to start airbrushing your models, then this is a really great product that I have been using daily for about 5 months now with no issues, whatsoever.
